Siamese Cats - The Talkers and the Lovers of the Cat World
Exotic and veiled in a mysterious past, the Siamese cat hails from Thailand where some even resided with royalty. In fact, Siamese cats were trusted to protect palaces and monasteries from evil spirits. These cats were thought to be lucky too, bringing good fortune to their owners.
It was the late 1800s when the first Siamese cats began appearing first in England and eventually America. Currently Siamese cats are one of the top-recognized breed (not everyone knows what a Manx is -- but if you shows a Siamese, there's no question). They're also a popular choice among pet owners who want to adopt short-haired kittens or cats who are low-maintenance physically and great company.
Although there are several different colors to this breed, a true Siamese cat shows standard markings. For example, their trunks are usually a much lighter shade than the color points around their face, legs, paws, and tail. Siamese cats tend to have a slim build and one of their most recognized feature is their bright blue eyes which are tilted into an almond shape.
Siamese cats talk (some people call it 'wailing' because their vocalizations can sound very much like a baby crying). So much so that if you are looking for a quiet cat, a Siamese would likely not be the best choice. They are not only loud, but also constant talkers. Extroverts in general, most Siamese cats love to play and chat; they also happen to be the most social breed of cats in existence who actually enjoy (and demand!) the company of people. Most do not do well if left alone for long periods of time. Consider adopting two kittens to keep each other company, if you don’t already have another cat (or dog) at home.
Because Siamese cats tend be quite dependant on their owners and crave interaction, they can be somewhat high maintenance (emotionally speaking). However, if you are looking for a true companion animal, adopting a Siamese kitten or cat might be the best decision you'll ever make.
